We’ve trawled the FW26 runways to select the trending color stories for the season, and we’re about to divulge every last tidbit, complete with fabrics, silhouettes, and which designers are setting the trends. Without further ado, may we introduce the FW26 color trends set to close out the year…
1. Into the woods with rich naturals
Woodland chic, anyone? If the FW26 runway-trending design colors are to be believed, the vibe for the colder months leans towards deep autumn woodland at dusk. Colors evoke moss, lichen, soil, bark, and dense, deep greenery. But don’t get it twisted — these may be understated naturals, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be boujee…
Moss green was a go-to shade for SS26, and it’ll still be serving neutral realness as the days darken. Aside from sticking to minimalist, neutral fabrics and silhouettes, we’re seeing moss green invigorated in a maximalist style via embroidery and textures, paired with statement accessories, as seen on runways for Kim Shui and STAUD.
Want to channel soft luxury in your FW26 collections or branding? You’ll want rich tones of bark brown and honeyed caramel, realized through velvety suede, ultra-soft leather, and animal skins. Tory Burch, Altuzarra, and 7 For All Mankind all made liberal use of these warm, earthy tones on their runways, via minimalist boxy leather jackets, shearling jackets, leather pencil skirts, and patent animal-skin accessories.
2. Groove out with burnished retro warms
This color story is a seasonal evolution of our ‘retro renegades’ palette from SS26, but with an Autumnal twist. This upcoming trending color palette is retro, cozy, and hella spicy — you’ll want to reach for fur, silk, textured fabrics, and slick, minimalist fabrics that show off razor-sharp lines.
We’re seeing red…oxblood and paprika, to be precise. This throwback shade was shown in monochrome ensembles and ‘90s cuts, fits, and silhouettes, paired with darks and neutrals. Find your inspo on the runways of Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, and Tory Burch.
She may be unusual, but yellow ochre is having a moment as one of the color trends for 2026, and we’re here for it. Designers like Libertine, Zankov, and Sergio Hudson chose this muted golden honey shade for super-soft knits, leather statement pieces, and slick tailoring.
3. Sulky and sultry with complex shades of blue
Teal was a color to watch for SS26 (it’s WGSN’s color of the year, no less!), and as the weather turns, we’ll see complex shades of blue storm the scene, bringing an essence of quiet power and moody darkness without resorting to black. Because of their sophisticated, classical nature, moody blues are being deployed in playful, maximalist patterns, specifically checks and polka dots of clashing varieties. And we’re living for the juxtaposition!
Want color palette fuel for FW26? Petrol is the one. Coach and 7 For All Mankind made liberal use of this tempestuous shade alongside charcoal and black in a playful but edgy double denim combo (more on that in a minute!). It’s a shade that also plays well with other blues as part of a tonal palette. We also saw muted petrol hues in sportswear for Balenciaga, harkening to the 2026 Olympics and World Cup.
Bright, rich peacock shades may have been hot for spring and summer, but dark teal is the one to watch for the colder months. This gender-inclusive, intense shade is the poster child for 2026’s theme of transformation and change, making it ideal for branding that leans into this liminal vibe. We love to see it paired with golden ochre, as shown on the Sergio Hudson runway.
We also spotted forget-me-not blue on catwalks as feather trims for necklines and hems (Bronx and Banco did this particularly well) and as part of acid-wash or distressed denim-on-denim ensembles. Turns out, the Canadian Tuxedo is alive, kicking, and not at all a fashion crime! Light blues were contrasted with charcoal and darker blues for a high-contrast look, often in smart, smooth fabrics.
4. Disrupt the scene with acid brights
More is more when it comes to this color story! WGSN has spotlighted Green Glow as a color to watch for FW26, calling its neon yellow/green ‘hypnotic,’ evocative of ‘nocturnal living,’ and recommending it as a statement packaging color and an ideal pick for sportswear.
We caught an acid-yellow soft slouchy knit over a light teal blouse on the Tory Burch runway and fell in love with the clashing colors, structures, and textures at play. Our SS26 renegade, chartreuse, was also spotted on the Kallmeyer runway alongside a gold-embossed pencil skirt. And speaking of gold…
It’s going to be a 24-carat end to the year with metallic gold set to hit apparel racks. It plays nicely with our ochre and chartreuse colors for opulent, vivacious statement looks. Libertine showed a metallic gold textured two-piece trouser ensemble with lamé gold gloves, topped with a black car coat and ruffled tulle accents in ochre. A gold-ornamented Jacquard jacket by ETRO shows how this opulent shade can illuminate historical craft techniques in a society mired in artificial art.
