C&A, a key and prestigious client of Checkpoint Systems, and international fashion retailer was recognized for its large-scale RFID rollout across over 1,300 stores in 17 countries and its Distribution Centers. This award highlights C&A’s commitment to innovation and customer-centric operations, as the implementation has significantly improved merchandise visibility, stock accuracy, and in-store availability—ultimately enhancing the overall shopping experience.
Checkpoint Systems and C&A worked closely on the RFID journey to optimize inventory management, handling complex assortments without disrupting daily operations. To ensure a smooth rollout of RFID technology and give sufficient time for Change Management and stores to embrace new processes, C&A and Checkpoint co-operated together to plan the rollout across all European stores over a period of 3 years. In March 2024, the rollout of RFID deployment across all C&A’s stores was completed, on schedule.
Key RFID processes now streamlining operations across C&A Stores
C&A stores have integrated several RFID-enabled processes that enrich operational efficiency and inventory accuracy. Every product is tagged to ensure precise tracking throughout its lifecycle. Real-time inventory counts are conducted with minimal disruption to daily operations, enabling accurate stock visibility at all times. The receiving process has been amended, allowing products to be processed and made available more quickly. Replenishment is also automated, making it easier to maintain optimal inventory levels on the shop floor.
Additionally, product movements between different locations are tracked seamlessly, ensuring better control over stock distribution. Inventory adjustments and retirements are automatically updated in the system, keeping records accurate and up to date. Finally, at the point of sale, RFID technology powers transactions, improving both the speed and accuracy of the checkout experience.

To bring this vision to life, C&A rolled out Checkpoint’s advanced RFID inventory management software (latest version called ItemOptix), complete with hardware solutions. C&A’s Distribution Centers are fully equipped with Checkpoint’s RFID tunnels, enabling seamless shipping validation and ASN (Advance Ship Notice) creation for smoother logistics.
Elevated retail performance thanks to RFID Innovations
Checkpoint’s RFID solutions, combined with the implementation of a GS1 standards-based EPCIS repository at C&A, have delivered substantial benefits -meeting and even surpassing the original objectives. Inventory accuracy has improved significantly, rising from 70% to 95%, which now enables real-time stock visibility and better product availability. This higher accuracy supports faster and more efficient in-store shelf replenishment, reducing out-of-stock scenarios. At the same time, optimized allocation from distribution centers to stores helps prevent shortages, contributing to a sales uplift of over 5%.
Shipments from distribution centers to stores, as well as transfers between store locations, are now handled with greater accuracy, further enhancing inventory reliability. Store associates are also able to offer improved customer service by spending less time searching for products and more time assisting shoppers. The RFID system supports omnichannel fulfillment by reducing order decline rates and ensuring that customers can receive the products they want, when and where they want them.
At the point of sale, RFID-powered transactions have increased checkout speed and efficiency, minimizing wait times and creating a smoother customer experience. With RFID now active in over 1,220 stores, distribution centers, POS systems, and self-checkout stations, C&A has eliminated the need for time-consuming and expensive physical audits. This transformation has strengthened operational accuracy and efficiency while delivering a better shopping experience for customers.
