Checkpoint announces the new barometer into European retail losses
Checkpoint Systems, a global leader in source to shopper solutions for the retail industry, is calling on European retailers to submit their latest retail crime data, ahead of the launch of a new theft barometer that will unveil the latest retail loss statistics and trends.
Checkpoint has a long history of providing insightful research into retail loss, having sponsored and published several respected reports over the last 16 years. The new Retail Security in Europe study, beginning today, will be conducted by researchers at Crime&Tech, a spin-off company of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and Transcrime, which recently conducted a similar report in Italy – Retail Security in Italy.
The new study will combine a traditional survey-based approach, with researchers also analysing store level data. The findings, that will be revealed in early 2019, will highlight the latest trends in shrinkage across Europe, with major retailers in 11 countries (Belgium, Finland, France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom) expected to take part.
Speaking about the new Retail Security in Europe report, Fran Zanier, EMEA Marketing Director at Checkpoint Systems, said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of Europe’s largest study of retail loss that will provide analysis that will help retailers across the continent set new strategies to tackle retail theft and improve merchandise availability. By encouraging collaboration, we believe the retail industry can unite to challenge the trends that are impacting retailers’ profitability and build a shared understanding of the obstacles facing the ongoing success and growth of the industry.”
Professor Ernesto Savona, the CEO of Crime&tech and Director of Transcrime, added: “This research combines qualitative and quantitative methods for analysing crime and security in the retail sector. Thanks to the data and information provided by the participating companies, we will be able to improve the quality of the analysis and provide best practices on the basis of more empirical evidence. The study will be a useful tool for retailers that they can use to monitor security trends, prevent theft and minimise losses”.
