Checkpoint as a division of CCL Industries has signed the Global Commitment of the New Plastics Economy led by Ellen MacArthur Foundation to drive change through active partnerships and support a more circular economy.

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation launched in 2010 to accelerate the transition to a circular economy: designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems. Since its creation, the charity emerged as a global thought leader on the circular economy keeping it on the agenda of decision makers across business, government and academia.

The New Plastics Economy is part of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, a circular vision for plastic in which it never becomes waste. In 2018 the New Plastics Economy launched The Global Commitment as business and government pioneer changes in how we produce, use, and reuse plastic. It has already mobilised over 450 signatories determined to start building a circular economy for plastic including companies representing 20% of all plastic packaging consumed globally.

Our Commitments at a Glance

  • By 2025, all of our customers will be able to choose label products and solutions that will not hinder consumer-packaged goods to be recyclable, reusable or compostable.
  • Checkpoint is committed to limit industrial waste ending up in the environment or in landfills by implementing waste reduction strategies. We are setting a goal of eliminating all landfill from our manufacturing process by 2030 in North America & Europe and cutting today’s level by 90% globally by 2025.
  • We will commit a fixed financial percentage of its R&D resources annually towards further development of sustainable and circular products
  • We will continue to work collaboratively across the plastic value chain to ensure packaging is sorted

Supporting Positive Change
The right label as well as other packaging products and solutions support Design for Recycling and make a difference when it comes to circularity.

“The New Plastics Economy Global Commitment unites businesses, governments and others behind a clear vision of a circular economy for plastic. We are pleased CCL Industries are joining us, by setting concrete 2025 targets. Our vision is for a world where plastic never becomes waste or pollution. It will be a challenging journey, but by coming together we can eliminate the plastics we don’t need and innovate, so the plastics we do need can be safely and easily circulated – keeping them in the economy and out of the environment.” – Sander Defruyt, Lead of the New Plastics Economy initiative at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
